Blindspot Protector
The Blindspot Protector is a wearable safety system that alerts railroad workers to vehicles in their blind spots, built by an external engineering team contracted by CN.
Technical Review & Field Testing
I was the internal technical resource on the system the external team was building: a Bluetooth radar paired with a Galaxy Watch app. I reviewed their codebase to understand the system and provide feedback. I devised changes to the location querying system to reduce power usage while improving precision, and designed a new threat analysis algorithm that was simpler, more accurate, and more efficient than the previous one.
I set up devices for test volunteers and attended all field tests to validate behavior and debug issues on site.
Incident Analysis Suite
The devices logged every alert to custom log files. I built an Electron desktop app to parse these files, with filters for incident type and a Google Maps heatmap of alert locations.
“Clive was instrumental to our Blindspot Protector initiative… He provided technical support, unpacking the code and suggesting and developing improvements, while also staging devices and meeting with test participants in the field. His design of a threat matrix for our blindspot protector invention was outstanding.”
